And 5 outfits later...
I woke up this morning to the sound of rain pattering on the window. I love that sound. It's so relaxing and soothing and since I'm on maternity leave it's even better knowing I can fall right back asleep if I want to. Jackson slept so great last night. I was up with him until about 1:00 a.m. when he finally fell asleep and then I fed him at 2:45 a.m., 4:30 a.m., and 7:00 a.m. and after each feeding he fell right back asleep. Poor thing though because every time I picked him up to feed him, his outfit was all wet. I don't know what it is about diapers. Why can't the pee just stay in the diaper? It would seem to me like that's the purpose. Someone suggested pointing his penis down in the diaper, but Joshua said it would be all misshapen. When I was organizing his clothes before his arrival I never thought we'd actually go through all of them, but I'm finding myself doing a load of his laundry everyday. Who knew? Today is the first day my husband has gone back to work. It's been really nice not only having him there to spend time with as a family, but also if when I was feeding and needed a burp rag, he's been there to run get it for me. Plus the nightly duties are all mine now. Usually he would get him to sleep if it was anytime before midnight and then I would take over, but he has to be at work at 5:00 a.m. There's no way I would make him stay up that late. It's funny how when you have a newborn, time doesn't exist. Not in the same way it used to anyway. There's a fine line now between day and night. The clock no longer seems necessary. The way I've been judging it is if he's gone through 5 outfits already, its probably morning. Although through the course of the night when I'm trying to get him to go back to sleep and I'm going through all the nursery rhymes and songs I've made up, I've figured out that when you run out of songs, just stop. I found myself at 3:00 a.m singing "bring me two pina coladas, I've got to have one for each hand...". Quickly it came to my attention to stop and it made me laugh. But it's back to reality and I'm so proud of him for being such a great dad. I've never been prouder than now to be his wife. Today Jackson and I have just been lounging around. I've been singing to him and we even stepped out in the rain for a minute so he could see what it was all about. It's the first rain we've had since he's been here. So now begins week 2 with my son...
